In operating our physical stores, we wanted to automatically acquire and analyze various metrics, similar to e-commerce sites, to utilize them for improvement activities.
However, traditional methods required manual measurement, placing a significant burden on staff, and we were forced to rely on "gut feeling" to assess increases and decreases in foot traffic and customer numbers.
We lacked the data necessary to objectively evaluate the effectiveness of our measures and establish a continuous improvement cycle.
Solution through implementation
By measuring foot traffic and customer traffic in front of the store, we were able to conduct real-world A/B testing focused on store entry rates.
The results of the testing clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the measures, such as a 3% increase in entry rates through verbal interaction and a 1% increase through improvements in visual merchandising (VMD) including signage.
The visualization of the results of our diligent work led to a sense of accomplishment among staff, and a PDCA cycle was established to continuously improve and implement highly effective measures based on data.
